A Japanese company, Ibanez has been at the forefront of guitar manufacturing and innovation for decades. During the 1980's, Ibanez began to make signature models for prominent guitarist like Steve Vai, introducing unique designs to the marketplace.
The history of the "Ibanez" brand starts when the Hoshino Gakki company began importing Salvador Ibáñez guitars from Spain into Japan in the 1920's. When Salvador Ibáñez disbanded, Hoshino Gakki picked up the "Ibanez" name and started manufacturing their own guitars. Originally coping established guitar designs, they began to expand the range into to more unique shapes in the late 70's and early 1980's. Around this time, Ibanez began building relationships with well-known guitarists, resulting in several iconic signature models being produced. This period was an important time for Ibanez as they began to establish themselves in the marketplace with a reputation for innovation and quality.
Nowadays Ibanez produce guitars for the likes of Joe Satriani, Paul Stanley, Nita Strauss, Paul Gilbert and Pat Metheny. They're well known for designing guitars to suit heavier, more technical styles of music, but also manufacture a range of high quality semi-hollow and hollow body instruments, suited to Jazz and classic rock. On top of this, their Tube Screamer overdrive pedals are a mainstay on the pedalboards of many iconic musicians.
