Driving your sound from your Band, performer or DJ requires both speakers and amplifiers. A commercial speaker, or PA speaker is designed to project audio to your audience - much like your home stereo system, however a commercial system will give you better, bigger and more consistent sound and can be easily tailored to suit any space.
Speakers come in two varieties - Powered and Unpowered. Powered speakers are designed with an amplifier built in and often includes other DSP and mixer components so you can plug gear in directly. Unpowered speakers are the older style, where the speaker is powered by a connection to a power amplifier. These work well for large installations but most people will benefit from the matched amp inside the powered models.
