Instruments like the JV-1080, XP-80, XV-5080, and numerous others offered the ability to expand their sounds with user-installable expansion boards, each loaded with a specialised sampled waveform set for different styles and genres.
After debuting the concept in 1992 with the JV-80 synth, Roland’s wave expansion board releases eventually grew to over 30 titles across two formats and multiple generations of supported instruments. Digital Circuit Behaviour (DCB) technology reproduces every nuance and detail, fusing the original sample ROM with advanced behaviour modelling that replicates the hardware’s digital components and circuitry.
